APANA Sydney 2001 Annual Regional Meeting held on Saturday, 03-Nov-2001

On Saturday, November 3rd 2001, the APANA Sydney ARM (Annual Regional Meeting) was held at Petersham.

These are the minutes of the ARM as recorded by Craig Dewick:

Annual Regional Meeting 03-Nov-2001
Meeting Opened 2.58 pm

Attendance : John August, Craig Dewick, David Fisher, David Johnston, Don Pedder, John Highman, Tiffany Pugh (non-member), Carolyn Baird (APANA national treasurer).

Apologies : Adrian Lyons, John Grech, Chris Perry.

Minutes of 2000 ARM read by John August. Moved to accept : David Fisher, seconded David Johnston, carried.

Report by John August, regional coordinator : Financial decline is serious concern, changes throughout last 12 months have helped arrest the cashflow situation. We're considering options for offering ISDN permanent connects at the hub using data-over-voice via OnRamp Home Highway services. Modem rack installation finished in late 2000, and all modem cards upgraded to latest firmware by David Johnston.

Courses run during the year with CAT, which brought small financial reward to the region.

Report by David Fisher, information officer: Very few inquiries about membership, otherwise nothing to report.

Report by David Johnston, hub connection officer: records in membership database and at the hub need updating to correct old contact details, listings of who uses what line, etc.

Report by Craig Dewick, deputy regional co-ordinator: Very serious financial situation. Outlined moves taken to correct this including changing ISDN to OnRamp Home Highway so we can use untimed data-over-voice calls and upgrade from 64 to 128 kbps, cancelling PSTN lines at the hub that are no longer needed, chasing up members for overdue fees!

Financial report and budget presented to members and visitors. Update on changes to regional website, discussions with Wollongong region to offer them low-cost 128 kbps ISDN link to save them money and bring extra money into Sydney region. Also plans to look at fast ADSL link at the hub, and perhaps upgrade ORBnet (Jedi) link to 256 kbps, and link to GCO to 128 kbps.

Outlined ads being placed in Computer Market to promote permanent links, also plans for ads in low-cost regional newspapers.
