APANA Sydney Member Support Page
Welcome to the APANA Sydney member support page. This page is here to provide support and region-specific information to anyone who needs to know something relating to generic network services offered by APANA Sydney to members, and other related issues like system configuration, etc.
Please use the fast-find index below to skip to the section you want:
- - Why haven't I received my membership renewal notice?
- - Who should I contact if something goes wrong with my connections?
- - What APANA newsgroups are available to me?
- - I'd like to see something here which isn't already covered. How can I request something new?
APANA Sydney web server and ISDN traffic statistics are now available!
Technical notes for members with dedicated IP connections are also available.
If you know for sure, or you suspect, that your membership is due for renewal and you have not received your membership renewal notice, you need to check two things:
Why Haven't I Received my Membership Renewal Notice?
Are your Contact Details in the Membership Database up to date?
You can check that your email address is correct by going to the APANA database server and searching for your membership record. Note that the database server is only available from APANA IP addresses.
- - Is my membership actually due for renewal?
- - Is my email address in the membership database actually correct?
If the email address shown for your membership record is correct, you should contact the Information Officer so he can look up when your membership is actually due for renewal.
The database server automatically emails membership renewal notices a month before the due date, so if your email address in the database is correct, and it's a month, or less than a month, before your membership renewal is due, or it's overdue, we need to take quick action to ensure your membership renewal notice is sent to you ASAP so you can pay it!

Who Should I Contact if Something Goes Wrong with my Connections?
If you are logged into a member access site, or using the network via a dedicated IP connection, and something goes wrong, you need to think rationally and try to figure out what the problem actually is, what you believe the cause to be, and where you believe the problem exists.Don't just automatically assume that the problem is with something that's outside your control and contact us demanding that we fix up whatever is not working. That's usually very counter-productive...
However, if you come to the conclusion that the problem is possibly something outside your control, you need to contact the right person or group of people:
One other point of interest for members using dedicated IP connections - please read the technical notes to make sure your system's configuration is correct.
- - If you are using access option 1 (part-time dial-up), you should first of all contact the member who operates the MA site you are connecting through as they have direct control over it's operation.
- - If you are using access option 2 (dedicated IP connection), you should contact the Sydney Region core network admin team as they have access to the core network machines to track down problems.

There are a number of text-based Usenet-style newsgroups available for APANA-related discussions:
APANA Usenet-style Newsgroups
Available for use by all Members
You can read and post news articles using common Usenet news applications, and most WWW clients also support newsgroups too (if you can tolerate the bloating system resource requirements that most fatware WWW clients have these days). Everyone seems to have a different preference for which news agent they prefer! 8-)
- - apana.syd.general - Sydney region general discussion forum,
- - apana.syd.netstat - Sydney region network status and related postings,
- - apana.syd.trading_post - Sydney region member buy, sell, swap newsgroup,
- - apana.general - APANA national general discussion forum,
- - apana.netstat - APANA national network status and related postings,
- - apana.policy - APANA national policy discussion newsgroup,
- - apana.test - APANA national newsgroup for test-postings, etc.
The main Sydney region news server is located on goliath, and the domain name alias to use in your application's setup is:
news.sydney.apana.org.auSome of the dial-up member-access sites also run their own local news servers.
